DAY SEVEN
Today we road from Gracious House Outpost along the balance of the Denali Highway, it was quite amazing. We had clear skies and views of Denali/Mt. McKinley for much of the ride. Denali is 20,000 ft high so it looks really amazing with 4k to 10k rooters around it. The weather here in Alaska changes many times during the day. We were happy to have no rain thus far, even though the forecast was for rain everyday. They say if you don’t like the weather in Alaska just wait a few hours or move 50 miles, this is because there are so many mountains effecting the fronts..
We wound up in a town called Talkeetna, it’s very quaint but very stylish, Stacey loved it. The TV show Northern Exposure was based on this town. Lots of shops and restraunts catering to crowds of buses and train loads of tourists from the cruise ships. The whole town will shut down in less than two weeks for the winter.
Our trip is nearing it’s end, sadly we have only seen a small corner of Alaska. My heart will truly remain in a state that has ATV/Snowmobile trails on the Side of every major highway. I have not seen a single Toyota Prius, but Many pickups, suvs, rvs, and atvs. For the past six days we have ot seen a single traffic light! Tomorrow we ride to Anchorage across our last adventure Hatcher Pass and then this will all change as we prepare to return to the State of Confusion, NY…
