DAY FOUR – PM
After lunch we headed out on a 26 mile stretch of off-road trail. It would run through the Wrangell National Forest. James will tell you about the rest of the afternoon…
Stacey had a bit of a rough day… We finished training this morning, which she did excellent with. We went for an afternoon ride into the Wrangell St Elias National Park on a dirt road overlooking an incredible river. Stacey experienced what we riders call an off… This involves a point when the rider is no longer on the bike unwillingly. She had gotten into a section of heavily rutted road and ultimately wound up on the dirt. She was unconscious for a vey brief period and had short term memory loss for around 30 minutes.. Fortunately we had a surgeon and an EMT on our ride with us. She is doing well now with a big welt on her thigh and some muscle bruising around her shoulder front and back areas.
Could have been much worse. We had to leave the bike on the trail and she was able to ride home on the back of my bike after an hour or so. Then we went back for the other bike.
Tomorrow will be a road ride towards Denali Mountain. Not sure yet if she will be up for it. Possibly she can ride on the back of my bike or she can ride in the support truck. Stay tuned..
